A laboratory technician plans and runs analyses, prepares samples, operates instruments and documents results to specification. Daily work includes occupational safety, cleanliness and validation, close coordination with production, quality assurance and scientists, and careful record-keeping.
- Receive, label and prepare samples and analyse them using methods such as titration, chromatography or spectroscopy.
- Calibrate instruments, apply methods, evaluate readings and report or follow up on deviations.
- Document results in LIMS or protocols and follow quality and documentation rules (e.g. GLP/GMP).
- Wear PPE, handle hazardous substances safely, clean workstations and dispose of waste correctly.
- Order or schedule chemicals and consumables and support equipment maintenance and validations.
- Coordinate closely with production, QA and scientific staff; shift or weekend work can occur depending on the lab.
